HURON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota State Fair in Huron is adding an extra day to this year’s schedule and admission passes will see a change as well.

“We recently made the exciting announcement that the opening day of the State Fair is going to be shifted from Thursday to Wednesday. So, Wednesday is going to be Channel Seeds opening day, and we did this with fair-goers and vendors and exhibitors in mind so they can fully experience the State Fair,” said SD State Fair Assistant Manager Candi Briley.

The opening date now will be Wednesday, August 31st. Briley outlines the effect this will have on the admission structure.

“You know, our daily gated admission rate remains the same as last year. Throughout the summer, we will be running advanced ticket promotions like we did last year for that. What did change a little was our weekly admission pass, where we did add Wednesday to that,” said Briley.

This will be the second year of the Dakota Events Complex or The Dex. The newly-appointed manager of the multi-use building is Katie Eslick.

“The first event held in the DEX was the cattle show during the South Dakota State Fair and during that event, we had exhibitors from across the state come in and bring their livestock to show off their cattle and the great genetics that we have in the state of South Dakota. The DEX will serve as the cattle show grounds for the duration of the South Dakota State Fair. Throughout the remainder of the year, we’ll have other events,” said Eslick.

The“vastness of the DEX building on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds is impressive. Learn more about the 2024 South Dakota State Fair here.
