Juan relishing Japan stint under Jake

Cape Town - Former Springbok flank Juan Smith is enjoying his stint at Japanese club Toyota Verblitz.

After spending four years at French giants Toulon, Smith was lured to Verblitz by ex-Springbok coach Jake White.

The 36-year-old was set to retire form professional rugby until White came calling.

And now, after playing four games in Japan, Smith is not so sure that this will be his final season.

“Throughout my career I’ve learn that one should not make hasty decisions. I thought that at my age I would have long since retired, but it seems not to be the case. I could extend my contract here with a season," Smith told Netwerk24.

Before heading to France in 2013, Smith played nine years for the Cheetahs.

He also played 70 Tests for the Springboks between 2003 and 2014.

Other South Africans plying their trade at Verblitz include prop Ruan Smith, lock Jason Jenkins, flyhalf Lionel Cronje and utility back Gio Aplon.
