Hollyoaks will give fans fresh hope that Joel Dexter and Cleo McQueen could reunite this Christmas.

The popular pair have been apart ever since Cleo discovered that Joel was involved in covering up the death of her cousin Bart.

Joel was also heartbroken when he learned that Cleo had terminated her pregnancy behind his back, but since the couple have a huge fanbase behind them, we've always expected them to find their way back together eventually.

Over the Christmas holidays, we'll see more hints that it's a real possibility when Joel confides in Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) about how he really feels.

Joel tells Sienna that he still cares about Cleo, so she encourages him to stop waiting around and concentrate on winning her back.

The former priest has seemed pretty caught up in Sienna's dramas recently, but could her advice spur him on to focus his efforts on Cleo instead? Or is there too much water under the bridge?

Rory Douglas-Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin, who play Joel and Cleo, recently went public with the revelation that they're a couple in real life – but will that ever be the case on screen again? Only time will tell!

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
