NEW DELHI :New Delhi/Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the two-day ‘UP Investors Summit’—the first such event by the Yogi Adityanath government. President Ram Nath Kovind will attend the valedictory function on the second day. The summit is aimed at showcasing investment opportunities and potential across various sectors in Uttar Pradesh. The mega event is being organised to bring together heads of states and governments, ministers, leaders from the corporate world, senior policy makers, heads of international institutions and academicians from around the world to further the cause of economic development in the state and promote cooperation to pave way for better investments, according to an official statement. Can UP compete with Maharashtra to become trillion-dollar economy, asks PM Modi

Prime minister Narendra Modi has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to compete with Maharashtra to become the first Indian state with a trillion-dollar economy. Speaking at the Uttar Pradesh Investor Summit in Lucknow on Wednesday, Modi said the Maharashtra government has set the target to become the first state to achieve the trillion-dollar economy tag. “Can there be a competition between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to achieve the target of trillion-dollar economy, first? This kind of competition will lead to development and generation of employment. Besides, this kind of healthy race will strengthen the spirit of competitive and cooperative federalism,” Modi said. Uttar Pradesh attracts investments worth Rs4.28 trillion: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh has signed 1,045 pacts worth Rs4.28 trillion on the first day of the UP investors’ summit, CM Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday. “It is a matter of pride for the state that fortune-500 companies are participating in this summit. I want to tell you all that till now we have signed 1,045 MoUs worth Rs4.28 lakh crore. I have recently presented budget of Rs4.28 lakh crore and the figure of MOUs signed is the same... We are heading towards new UP,” Adityanath said while addressing the summit in Lucknow. He said he would himself oversee that the MoUs signed are executed, and those who are coming to invest in the state get all the facilities. “I welcome all the guests including industrialists. With PM’s guidance and blessings, UP is heading towards development and shedding its bimaru tag. We are trying to become developed. PM’s guidance helps us in good governance and taking the state on path of development,” he said. (PTI)

PM Modi announces Rs20,000 crore defence corridor for Bundelkhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced a defence industrial corridor in the Bundelkhand region to bring development in one of the most backward regions of Uttar Pradesh. “One of the two defence industrial corridors mentioned in the budget, one is proposed in the Bundelkhand region of the state which will bring an investment of Rs20,000 crore and generate employment avenues for 2.5 lakh people,” the prime minister said at the UP Investors Summit 2018 in Lucknow. Stressing that Uttar Pradesh government has a vast potential, the Prime Minister said that it requires policy, planning , performance to bring progress and both CM Yogi Adityanath and people of the state are ready to give “super hit” performance. Terming holding of investor’s summit in Uttar Pradesh and congregation of industrialists from all over as a sign of a big change, the prime minister said the Yogi government has overcome the previous negativity and shown a ray of hope to people with positive changes. “Uttar Pradesh has values and virtues, but it also needs value addition,” the prime minister said lauding the new policy ‘One district one product’ of the Yogi government and said that it could prove to be the game changer for the state. The prime minister also said that international airports will come up in Jewar and Kushinagar. (PTI)

Aditya Birla Group to invest Rs25,000 crore in UP

The Aditya Birla Group on Wednesday said it will invest Rs 25,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh over the next 5 years. The group will invest in areas such as finance, cement and chemicals among others, Aditya Birla group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said at the Investors Summit in Lucknow. The group is working in 400 villages under the corporate social responsibility, he said and promised to contribute to the state’s progress. Sharing his Lucknow connection, Birla said his mother was born in UP and was a teacher at the local IT college here. (PTI)

Mukesh Ambani vows additional Rs10,000 crore investment in UP

Terming contribution to Uttar Pradesh’s development his patriotic duty, Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani on Wednesday promised investment of another Rs10,000 crore through Jio in the next three years. Speaking at the UP Investor Summit here, he said the investment will be over and above the Rs20,000 crore Jio has already invested in the state in rolling out high-speed 4G telecom venture. Ambani said India cannot rise to its full potential without the rise of 22 crore people of Uttar Pradesh. He also vowed full support to the ‘Namami Gange’ project. The RIL chief said he wanted every youth in the state to be a smart youth and for this Jio will make available over 2 crore phones in the state in the next two months on a priority basis. “Jio has already created over 40 thousand direct and indirect jobs in UP. Along with other businesses of RIL , Jio will create over one lakh new and sustainable livelihood opportunities in the next three years,” Ambani said. (PTI)

Adani Group will invest Rs35,000 crore in UP

Adani Group today said it will invest Rs 35,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh over the next five years in various sectors. Promising to stand with the leadership in transforming the state, Gautam Adani of the Adani Group committed an aggregate investment of Rs35,000 crores in UP. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Investors Summit- 2018 in Lucknow, Adani said energy, logistics, solar power, roads and agriculture are among the core sectors in which his group is working and showed interest in investing in these fields. “Almost 17 per cent of the total population of the country lives in Uttar Pradesh...the development story of the country cannot be written without the state,” Adani said. Foreign delegates, India Inc., Union ministers to attend two-day event

More than 5,000 delegates are scheduled to attend the two-day UP investors summit and over 100 speakers will be addressing gatherings. There are a total 30 sessions scheduled to be held in two days, during which representatives from Mauritius, Japan, the Netherlands, Finland, Czech Republic, Thailand and Slovakia will also be participating. Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan, along with others, will be present during the sessions. Top industrialists, including Gautam Adani, Mukesh Ambani, Subhash Chandra, N. Chandrasekaran, Anand Mahindra, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Shobana Kamineni will also be addressing various sessions.
