ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont day care facility worker had pleaded not guilty to several felony charges related to alleged sexual abuse at the facility.

WCAX-TV reports that 77-year-old Thomas Claffey was arraigned Monday on a felony charge of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. Authorities say they received a report last week of abuse that allegedly occurred in 2014 at the St. Johnsbury facility. Reached at home, Claffey said he had no comment on the charge.

State police say Claffey helped run the day care and would occasionally supervise the children. He was arrested Sunday following an investigation.

Claffey was released on $2,500 bail and on the condition that he not enter any day care facilities. Claffey refused to comment on the charges at Caledonia Superior Court.
