Triangle Business Journal Awards Chiesi USA, Inc. Second Consecutive Corporate Philanthropy Award

Chiesi in the Community impacts local organizations, communities, patients and employees

CARY, N.C., May 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Chiesi USA (key-ay-zee), a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Cary, N.C., was awarded the Triangle Business Journal’s Corporate Philanthropy Award the second year in a row for its financial and volunteer corporate philanthropy efforts. The Corporate Philanthropy Award recognizes corporations, non-profits and individuals who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the local community.

In the last year, Chiesi USA awarded nearly $780,000 in support of patients within its therapeutic areas and selected local charities in addition to hands-on employee participation through the company’s Chiesi in the Community. The corporate social responsibility employee-led program focuses on four key pillars - Therapeutic Areas, Local Sociocultural Enhancement, Stakeholder Engagement and Keystone Initiative.

“At Chiesi, we are our people,” said Ken McBean, president of Chiesi USA. “We are committed to the patients we serve, through our therapeutic areas, as well as charitable initiatives focused on children in our community. By empowering our people, we have fostered organic participation across our teams, building a true sense of engagement with groups like March of Dimes Eastern North Carolina Chapter, American Heart Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Mauli Ola Foundation, and many more.”

In 2017, Chiesi introduced Chiesi in the Community, the first of its kind to be created by a Chiesi affiliate in any country. Over the past year, Chiesi’s Keystone Initiative, a commitment to aid the student learning experience at Charles R Bugg Magnet Elementary School in southeast Raleigh, resulted in more than $152,000 of financial support and 1,150 hours of volunteer time. The contributions included supporting the transition to a tech-focused magnet theme, launching an in-school food pantry and vegetable garden, expanding the school’s BackPack Buddies program and providing $35,000 to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to support educational programs at the school.

“Our employees and leadership continue to display a desire to do more,” continued McBean. “They are humbled and excited to give through the philanthropic arm of our company and have displayed this through the extreme growth in employee volunteerism we’ve experienced this year.”
